It’s little wonder that Noosa is a wildlife wonderland – we’re surrounded by nature’s beauty in the form of national parks, the saltwater spaces of Laguna Bay and the Coral Sea that lap Noosa’s beaches, the winding Noosa River fed by the Everglades system, rocky headlands, forest trails, a countryside of hills and valley, and clean skies. All a perfect home for our native animals, birds and sea creatures.
As you walk through the national parks, along the river, through hinterland trails or even strolling a long Hastings Street, you’ll become aware of the wildlife all around.
The Noosa National Park, just a short walk from Hastings Street, is home to koalas (there’s often one high in the trees not far from the park entrance), wallabies, the protected brush turkey and goanna. Look out to sea and you might spot turtles as they bob up for air, dolphins or whales (June to November).
Explore bays and rock pools along Noosa National Park’s coastal tracks for tiny fish and other sea creatures but please remember to leave them alone as this is their home.
The whole Noosa region is teeming with birdlife so pause to count how many bird species you see, including the White Bellied Sea Eagle, Brahminy Kites, Great Egret or the much-loved Pelican. Head to the boat ramps to see these greedy Pelicans feed from the fishermen’s leftover catch.
